Sulawesi Shrimp Care Guide
Sulawesi shrimp do best in warm, alkaline water with very stable parameters. They can breed in captivity, but they react badly to sudden changes and “new tank” conditions. These pink boxer are kept and bred in Neocaridina parameter.
Basic Care
-
Tank size: 10+ gallons (more water volume helps stability)
-
Temperature: 76-82°F (keep it consistently warm)
-
pH: 7.2–8.2
-
GH/KH: Moderate hardness (common targets: GH ~5–8, KH ~3–6)
-
TDS: Common target range 150–250 ppm (many aim ~160–200)
-
Diet: Biofilm/algae + quality shrimp food; add blanched veggies; small protein meals occasionally
-
Behavior: Peaceful, often shy; spends time grazing surfaces
-
Tankmates: Best in a species-only tank; avoid fish if you want steady breeding
Key Notes
-
Use a mature, cycled tank with lots of hardscape/plants for biofilm.
-
Add strong aeration (warm water holds less oxygen).
-
Keep ammonia/nitrite at 0 and nitrates low; do small, consistent water changes.
-
Remineralized RO/DI with Sulawesi-specific minerals often works better than random tap water.
-
Do a slow drip acclimation; they stress easily from parameter swings.
